Ebay is an auction website. Items which can be bought or sold here range from a pin to a house. Only registered members can participate in the auction and/or sell goods.

I am an active member of Ebay, I mainly buy goods, particularly books and CDs and also sell some stuff, mainly CDs.
The registration process takes about 15 minutes, but if you do not have a Paypal account, you will need to have one as well since most sellers accept Paypal payments.

There is a search engine to find the items you wish to buy and from the main page you can go to the option "My Ebay" and here you can either select "sell" if you wish to sell or "buy" if you wish to buy.

If you buy, there is a listing fee of at least 15 pennies and Ebay will also take a commission of the final price, which can be in between 3.5% and 5.5%

In my experience, I got some good deals, I sent money already twice to people who did not send me the good and make a run, on one occasion I recovered them via Paypal. I also had a problem with one seller who did not honour his winning bid. Ebay is a bit of a mixed bag, but if you have time, you can get good deals. It is time consuming though, no doubt about this!
